We watched the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven over the weekend, and I really enjoyed it. I actually enjoyed the theatrical release as well, but the director's cut is outstanding. No, Orlando is not a great actor, but he did quite well in this (and yes, he's pretty, shut up). The music and cinematography were excellent and I think I'm a little bit in love with Saladin in this. And King Baldwin? How can you not love a movie with a badass leper? I mean, really?
We also caught Tombstone for the 2,348,583,584th time on Encore. How I love that movie. No, it's not a great movie. But it's incredibly entertaining. It's one of those movies, like The Dirty Dozen and Ferris Bueller's Day Off that are like my kryptonite - if they're on, I *have* to watch them. The point of all of that, though is that we searched out the "true" history of Doc Holiday, and it's actually even more interesting and shocking than the movie version.
Wow, I got rambly today. OK, nose, meet grindstone.
Tombstone is indeed a classic, if not by the traditional critics' standards .. I've probably seen it 15 times, and Val Kilmer just makes me laugh more each time
ReplyDeleteI have one of those movies: About Last Night with Demi Moore and Rob Lowe. Very cheesy but satisfing. Sort of like Velveeta macaroni and cheese.

ReplyDeleteReel - I totally agree. It's just incredibly entertaining to watch and it never gets old. To me, at least. Another of that ilk is The Quick and the Dead - totally campy but oddly compelling. And I love badass!Sharon Stone.
ReplyDeleteLK - I don't think I've ever seen that! Those movies are like mac'n'cheese, or a big ole mountain of mashed potatoes. Yum.
"Anonymous" - I am suitably chastened. Now I must ponder how to get down there and finally meet your wee pup! Also? I was looking through 2 DVDs that my dad digitized of his massive slide collection, and found one of my 11th or 12th birthday, with all of us...and you in your Simon LeBon t-shirt. Oh yeah. Good times.
wow...in a Simon LeBon t-shirt...you must share. Mi casa es tu casa you know, however, no chastizing is necessary, I've never seen that beautiful tree from your kitchen table either. :) And as for the real Tombstone, it's my least favorite spot in Southern Arizona, by far.
