lyre It is a symbol of divine harmony and of the harmonious union of sky and earth. The lyre is an attribute of the Greek god Apollo and a common symbol of music and poetry. The sound of the lyre was sometimes believed (e.g., in the myth of Orpheus) to have magical powers, especially of taming wild beasts.
