Myths, Folklore & Symbolism: Leshii

Leshii

"A forest spirit of eastern Slav folk myth, the guardian of trees and forest animals. Resembling a peasant, he may be as tall as a tree or as short as grass, depending where he lives. He can change shape, such as into an animal or a relative, especially when he intends mischief. A peasant entering the forest would ward off the leshii by praying or turning his clothes inside out."
