Myths, Folklore & Symbolism: Strawberry
Strawberry "The strawberry was known in the Middle Ages only in its small-fruited form. Because of its threefold leaf, it was the symbol of the Trinity; because of its lowly growth habit and its virtues, it symbolized noble humility and modesty. The blood-red, pendant fruit was sometimes considered a symbol of the shed blood of Christ or the martyrs, and the five-petaled blossom symbolized the five wounds of Christ. The ripe fruit could also indicate the readiness of a young woman for marriage and motherhood; it sometimes signified desire for worldly pleasures." (Herder)
